Finding 1
Claim rates vary sharply by metro.
Phoenix leads the five metros that cleared our n = 50 threshold, with 20% of med spa profiles unclaimed. Nashville at 19%, Las Vegas at 18.6%, San Diego at 16.6%, Miami at 16.1%. The spread is tight across these metros: no single metro is dramatically worse than its peers. Metros below the threshold (Beverly Hills, Raleigh, Scottsdale, West Palm Beach) are excluded from the chart to reduce identification risk and avoid small-sample artifacts.

Finding 2
Review counts cluster around a bimodal pattern.
Med spa review volume shows a strong bimodal split. Half the profiles sit below 39 reviews. Another chunk crosses 136. Beyond that, the top 10% exceed 420 reviews. The practical takeaway: if your med spa has fewer than 40 reviews, you are in the bottom half of the market. Moving from 40 to 140 puts you in the top quarter. Moving past 400 puts you in the top 10%.

Finding 3
The rating ceiling is very close to 5.0 in this vertical.
74% of US med spa profiles rate 4.9 or 5.0. Another 11% rate 4.7 to 4.89. Only 2.5% rate below 4.0. The effective ceiling for a competitive med spa rating is essentially 4.9. A 4.6 puts you in the bottom quartile even though 4.6 would look strong in most other industries.
For owners: if your rating is 4.7, you are not ahead of the market. You are at roughly the 50th percentile. The competitive gap between 4.7 and 4.9 matters more than the numeric difference suggests.
Finding 4
San Diego and Phoenix dominate the volume.
San Diego (247), Phoenix (245), Scottsdale (159), Nashville (116), Las Vegas (113), and Miami (112) account for over 70% of our US med spa sample. This reflects our extraction footprint, not the actual national distribution, and should shape how you read the findings. Metros outside these markets are under-represented.

Methodology
Sample. 1,448 US-based Google Business Profiles categorized as skin_care_clinic, collected between December 1, 2025 and April 10, 2026. Concentrated in AZ, CA, FL, TN, NC, NV.
Metric definitions. Unclaimed means the profile showed a public Claim this business prompt during extraction. Unverified means our extraction did not produce a conclusive signal. Rating buckets use Google's public star rating rounded to two decimal places. Review count is the total shown on Google Maps at time of extraction.
Photo counts. Our extraction records photo counts up to 10, which is a Google Maps display cap on the scraped view. Profiles may have many more photos than what we observe. We report findings as fewer than 10 visible photos and do not claim total photo counts.
What this doesn't tell us. Revenue per profile, customer acquisition cost, actual ranking position, or conversion data. Our sample underrepresents the Northeast and Midwest. Claim rates may differ there.
Data freshness. Findings reflect the state of our sample as of the collection date in the header. Google Business Profiles change every day. Profiles may be claimed, ratings may shift, reviews may be added or removed. We do not re-verify figures after publication. Readers comparing against current Google data should expect drift over weeks and months.
What this means for med spa owners
If you own a med spa, the benchmark math is simple. A 4.9 rating with 140+ reviews and a claimed profile with a linked website puts you comfortably in the top quartile of the US sample. Missing any one of those drops you toward the median.
The single highest-leverage move if your profile is unclaimed: claim it. Verified profiles can add photos, respond to reviews, update hours, and run Google Posts. Unclaimed ones cannot, and Google treats their owner-driven signals as absent.
Past that, the order of priority we observed: link your website if it is empty, push toward 140 reviews, hold a 4.8+ rating, maintain 10 or more photos visible in the Maps display.
